Mesh Topology

Mesh topology is a specific kind of network topology in which all of the various devices in the network are connected through each other.

Formula: Linking of n nodes n(n-1)/2

There are two types of Mesh topology:
Partial Mesh Topology : In this topology some of the systems are connected in the same fashion as mesh topology but some devices are only connected to two or three devices.
Full Mesh Topology : Each and every nodes or devices are connected to each other.

Advantages of Mesh topology:

  • It can handle heavy traffic.
  • It is possible to transmit data from one node to many other nodes at the same time.
  • The failure of a single node does not cause the entire network.
  • Makes it easy to identify faults.
  • Provides security and privacy.

Disadvantages of MeshTopology:
  • A lot of cabling is required.
  • The costs incurred in setup and maintenance are high.
  • Some times many network connections serve without any purpose.
  • The administration of a mesh network is difficult.
