Plotter, Speech Generating Devices,

4} Speech Generating Devices:
“Speech-Generating Devices (SGDs), are also known as Voice Output Communication Aids. These are Electronic Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Systems used to supplement or replace speech or writing for individuals with severe speech impairments, enabling them to verbally communicate.”

SGDs are important for people who have limited means of interacting verbally, as they allow individuals to become active participants in communications interactions. This technology helps the persons who have suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS). AAC devices not only have robust language systems to allow for affective and efficient communications, but they also provide alternative way to select letters, words and messages.
The first known SGD was prototyped in the mid-1970's, and rapid progress in hardware and software development has meant that SGD capabilities can now be integrated into devices like smartphones. Notable users of SGD's include Stephen Hawking, Roger Ebert, Tony Proudfoot, and Pete Frates (founder of the ALS ice bucket challenge).

5} Plotter:
A plotter is a device that is used to print Vector Graphics on to the hard copy based on the instruction given by the computer. Instead of printing individual dots on the paper, plotter draws continuous lines. Plotter are widely used for printing or designing of things such as cars, ships, buildings, bridges, dams, aircrafts and many more things on a piece of papers using pen, pencil marker, or another writing tools to draw architectural blueprint and other CAD drawings. They can print wide variety of materials including Plywood, Aluminum, Steel Sheet, Card board, and plastic. Plotters are widely used in engineering where precision is mandatory. They are expensive than the printer. A plotter is also known as Graph Plotter.

The first plotter was introduced by the Remington Rand in the year 1953.It was used in conjunction with the UNIVAC computer to create technical drawing.
There are two main types of Plotter:
A} Flatbed Plotter
B} Drum Plotter
C} Inkjet Plotter
D} Cutting Plotter
A} Flatbed Plotter: A the flatbed plotter has two arms that moves pens horizontally or vertically on the paper which is stationary on the flat surface. It uses several different pens to create graphs. Typically the plot size of the paper may be 20-50 feet long. A flatbed plotter is also known as Table Plotter because it works on the flat surface of the table. In the flatbed plotter complicated drawing takes several hours to print due to the movement of mechanical devices. Today, mechanical plotters have been replaced by thermal plotters. These system are faster and cheaper. They also produce large size of drawings.

B} Drum Plotter: Drum plotters are also called Roller Plotters. As the name implies Drum or roller, the plotter consists of roller which rotates back and forth to produce the graph on the paper and the ink pen rotating left and right. The document printed by drum plotter is only limited by paper size, it means the drum printer printed the paper as larger as you want. The width of image depends on the width of the drum. A drum plotter also consist of mechanical robotic drawing arm. It consist of colored ink pens or pencils. The drum plotter are used to produce continuous output, such as plotting earth quick activity.

C} Inkjet Plotter: The inkjet Plotters plotter are used to image by spraying small droplets of ink on the paper. A popular choice for advertising agencies and graphics designers, inkjet plotters are generally for large outputs, such as banners and billboards and large signs often seen along roadsides. They are available in thermal or piezoelectric models. Thermal inkjet plotters use heat to apply droplets of ink, while piezoelectric plotters use charged crystals to apply the ink. Inkjet plotters typically produce better quality graphics than other plotter types.

D} Cutting Plotter: The cutting plotter is a large scale cutting device that produces ready-cut vinyl lettering and graphics. Automated plotter knives cut into a sheet of the material lying on the plotter's flat surface area, carving out the design stored in the attached computer. Used for sign making, billboard advertising and vehicle graphics, the devices offer far greater speed and precision than can be achieved with the traditional method of creating sign lettering and logos by hand.
